【Chemistry of Chlorous Acid Water】

“Chlorous Acid (HClO2)”, which is the main active ingredient of chlorous acid water is chemical species in the state of undissociated molecue and it is dissolved by equilibrium with dissociated state of chlorous acid,(H+・ClO2-). In addition, this chlorous acid (HClO2) in undissociated form becomes chlorine dioxide (ClO2 (in Water Phase)) by Disproportionation Reaction and this chlorine dioxide changes to chlorite ion (ClO2-) by getting electron(e-) from water (H2O). Thus, this chlorite ion (ClO2-) returns to dissociated state of chlorous acid (H+ ・ClO2-) and starts to form equilibrium again with chlorous acid (HClO2) which is undissociated state.We call this one series of repeated reaction “Cycle Reaction.
Also, in the aqueous solution of “KlorusKare”, there is co-existence of the above-mentioned molecules and ions at the same time.
And, this can be confirmed by observing UV absorption spectrum using from spectrophotometers.
From the UV absorption spectrum, specific absorption spectrum at both wavelengths of at around 260nm and 350 - 360nm range can be observed as unique absorption line.

Application Standard

Chlorous Acid Water shall not be used for foods other than grain (polished rice only), beans, vegetables, fruits, seaweeds, seafood, meat. As application concentration of chlorus acid, in case of using for grain (polished rice only), beans, vegetables, fruits, seaweeds, seafood, meat, only 0.4g or less of chlorus acid, HClO2 content per Kg of dip or spray solution (in case of polished rice, per 1kg of added water) shall be used. Residual chlorous acid shall be decomposed or removed before completion of finished food products.

Labeling Example for Food Application

The product shall be labeled as “Chlorous Acid Water” But such labeling is not necessary when it is used in food processing.
Thus, the product is regarded as processing aid. (In this case, however, neutralization, decomposition or removal of the product is required prior to end of food processing.)

Cautions in Application

  1. Never mix or make any contact of the product with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, reducing agent, ammonia compounds, toxic substances and hazardous substance. Never mix specific lot of the product with other lot of the same product for storage, either. Because other lot might have lost stability due to its nature of oxychlorine compound, resulting in abrupt generation of chlorine gas.
  2. Chlorine gas may blow out when opening a cap of a package, which is dangerous if inhaled.
  3. Be sure to wear safety goggles and gloves when using it.
  4. Keep out of reach of children.
  5. Use it at well-ventilated places.
  6. Do not pour it into other containers.
  7. Do not use it with hot water.
  8. Do not use it for metals since they may get rusted easily.
  9. Be careful about clothes and carpets not to be exposed to it to prevent them from being bleached.
  10. Be sure to finish washing the inside with water when dispose used empty containers.

First Aids

  1. If in eyes: Rinse with plenty of running water for more than 15 minutes and immediately ask for eye doctors’ treatment.
  2. If on skin: Rinse the skin with water using soap, and confirm if there is any change in appearance at the affected part. In case the pain lasts, ask for doctors’ treatment.
  3. If swallowed: Rinse inside of the mouth well, drink water or milk and vomit it (Do not induce vomiting), then ask for doctors’ treatment.
  4. In case it makes your eyes hurt, makes you cough, or makes you feel sick while using it, stop using it immediately, move away from the place and take actions such as rinsing your eyes or gargling.

※ In any of the above-mentioned cases, bring this product when getting doctors’ treatment.

Storage and Handling Conditions

  1. Store in the refrigerator at below 10℃
  2. Keep out of reach of children.
  3. Once the package is opened, close its outlet tightly after each use and store it in the refrigerator at below 10℃. Use the remaining product in the container as soon as possible.
  4. Do not put it close to the fire.
